Chrome App: Turn Off the Lights

Do you ever show your class videos but want to "hide" those ads/pictures that pop up around the movie? Of course you can launch movies into full screen mode but what happens when you go to click on another program or switch to another movie clip? My students a-l-w-a-y-s get side tracked with all of the riff raff that tends to pop up. ENTER: Turn Off the Lights, a very useful Chrome extension that you can add to your Chrome browser. Head to Chrome and click on the link above. Then click on the button to Add to Chrome. You will see that a little light bulb is added to your address bar:

Now, head to a video that you want to show your class:

Click on the light bulb and watch all of the riff raff vanish!

At first your screen might just be faded. To make it more opaque, right click on the light bulb and click "Options". There you can play around with the Opacity toggle. You can even make it a specific color:

There are many other effects you can add such as a glowing border around the video. However, I like to keep it simple and pleasing to the K-5 eye :)
