Speechable is a VERY easy to use Web 2.0 tool that can be used for some fun activities in your classroom. Students upload or link a picture to the site in which they can overlay speech bubbles, text and/or doodles. If you take pictures of your students and do not have an easy way for them to download their pictures to their computers, simply upload the pictures on your blog or class website for them to visit, click and copy the url address!

Here is the toolbar:

This is the menu that pops up for the speech/thought bubbles. The fonts are the fonts on YOUR computer and you can customize the color and size of both the bubble and the font!

Here is the menu that pops up for the doodling. Students can choose the color and the thickness of their line!
Here is a quick little Speechable I created using a picture of my dogs (Can you tell which dog is my fiances' dog and which is MY dog? They are best buds....):

How could you use this with your students? Labeling pictures? Writing with dialogue? Mother's Day/Father's Day keepsake? Creating writing prompts for another class?

  1. As a Spanish teacher, this is a great tool to use for my intro level classes to get them writing based on picture prompts. They can't write a whole lot early on, so something like speech bubbles is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!
