Digital Choice Boards Q&A

Do you have questions about how to use Digital Choice Boards in Google Slides? Come learn more about digital choice menus, how to assign them and why they are so great for differentiation!
Have you tried Digital Choice Boards? They are one of my favorite activities I like to help teachers implement. The activities we include in these digital choice boards involve technology tools for students to use as they explore a topic they are studying. We don't come up with technology based activities just to get students using technology, we come up with technology based activities because they have the ability to tap into multiple intelligences and learning styles. Typing, voice-to-text, text-to-speech, graphic, diagram, audio recording, video recording, and multiple creation tools can truly maximize our learning environment to reach its fullest potential. Differentiation has never been easier!

I like to create digital choice boards in Google Slides because you can easily link to outside web tools as well as link the activities to slides built into the same presentation. I refer to the slides that appear under the main choice board as accountability slides because teachers can build different activities for students to work with as well as provide an area for students to add links and screenshots of their creations.

Recently I posted an image on my Facebook page and Twitter asking teachers what questions they had about digital choice boards. Here are some of those questions and my responses:Q: Does each child get their own copy of the choice board?A: Yes. To learn more about how this works, check out my post: The Most Popular Ways to Share Google Drive Files & Templates with Students.
Q: How do you grade the choice boards?
A: In the choice boards I create that can be found in my TpT Store I include an editable rubric that the teacher can insert his/her criteria. The rubric can be printed (I usually recommend teachers print two rubrics to a page to use for grading to save paper) or used digitally. To grade digitally, teachers can use the shapes tool to circle the amount of points students earned. You would also want to make sure to fill in the criteria before assigning the board to students.

Q: I assigned my students a choice board but they can't edit the file. It says view only. What am I doing wrong?
A: When assigning students a digital choice board, they each need their own copy to edit. There are many ways to go about sharing files so each student has their own copy. Head to the follow blog post if you need help with this: The Most Popular Ways to Share Google Drive Files and Templates with Students.

Q: Do you assign a new choice board each week?
A: That is totally up to you! I added my choice board activities as text boxes so the teacher can easily click and drag the boxes to new locations on the choice board to provide a different experience each time the choice board is assigned. The text is also editable in my templates so the teacher can type any sort of text & link in a different activity. Lots of flexibility! If students use technology regularly in your classroom then you might consider assigning a fresh choice board each week.
Q: Can your choice boards be used with Microsoft?
A: All of my choice boards are available in Google Slides; however, you can download the Google Slides file as a PowerPoint by going to File>Download>Microsoft PowerPoint. All of the links and images transfer nicelyšŸ˜‰.
