About Me

Hey guys! I'm Julie Smith a.k.a. THE Techie Teacher :) Thanks for stopping by!

I started this blog to share ed tech ideas with teachers all around the world as well as document my journey in the classroom. If you are looking for fun, engaging yet EDUCATIONAL ideas for incorporating technology into your classroom, then you have come to the right place. I love discovering new apps and web tools to use with elementary students.

I have spent 11 years in the education field as I have had the joy of teaching 2nd grade, 3rd grade, 5th grade and went to graduate school to become a Reading Specialist! In 2013 I took a position as an ITRT (Instructional Technology Resource Teacher) and I coached K-5 teachers at four different schools for three years. BEST JOB EVER!

In 2011 I went through the National Board Certification process and by some stroke of luck I was able to achieve my first year. If any of you out there are trying to certify in Early/Middle Childhood Literacy, give me a shout! I would be more than willing to help you out :) (or at least TRY to...)

I currently live in Ann Arbor, Michigan with my husband and two fur babies, Rusty and Riley. We enjoy traveling around the world, kayaking, working out and going on long walks :)

I would love to connect with you on social media! Come find me on Facebook, Instagram,  Twitter and Pinterest. Also, head over to my TeachersPayTeachers store if you are interested in technology resources for the classroom.

  4. Your life is very inspirational and this blog has been very useful to me. I am a homeschooler and the reviews and the posts you write about are fantastic. And Riley is adorable! If a parent like myself found an app or game or software for kids that I want reviewed by you (because I obviously trust your opinions), how do I approach it? (For example, any app from http://www.jumpstart.com/ )

    1. Hi Ramona! Thank you for stopping by :) The apps on Jump Start are pretty good! I know my 3rd graders last year really enjoyed Math Blaster. Students do not create anything using these apps, just practice skills. Let me know if there are any specific apps you would like for me to look at.Also, I would be more than happy to recommend apps if there is anything specific you are trying to do!

  5. Julie! We are so glad you have enjoyed the ZooKazam ZooAtlanta app, also check out our original ZooKazam app, also free in the AppStore. It has a more extensive library of animals including Safari , bugs and dinosaurs. We will be adding an ocean series soon! It's wonderful seeing it used in the classroom. Please share your experiences with the ZooKazam team on social media!
