Digital Part of Speech Lesson for 3rd-5th Grade

Lindy over at The Happy Teacher gave me a fun idea for teaching parts of speech. She posted about an online version of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid that can be found HERE from Funbrain.com. Why not open to a random page in the book and display the page on your Smartboard? Students could take turns coming to the board and highlighting or circling the parts of speech they "spy" on each page. Any sort of word study, writing or reading skill could be a lesson: syllables, fact and opinion, types of sentences, main idea/details, inferring, vowel patterns……

I think this would be a sure fire way to keep my students engaged since they LOVE this series :) Check it out:

  1. This is a great idea. I teach Grade 3 and this series has been the most popular with my class this year. I have 2 copies of each book and I can't keep them out of the hands of my students. Even my struggling readers want to read them. I have been working on parts of speech with my class, but I didn't even think to link it to these books. I will have to check this out for a future time. Thanks.
I found you through your post on graduated cylinders. I am now following you. I can't wait to see what you do next with technology.
