The Happy Teacher gave me a fun idea for teaching parts of speech. She posted about an online version of The Diary of a Wimpy Kid that can be found
HERE from Funbrain.com. Why not open to a random page in the book and display the page on your Smartboard? Students could take turns coming to the board and highlighting or circling the parts of speech they "spy" on each page. Any sort of word study, writing or reading skill could be a lesson: syllables, fact and opinion, types of sentences, main idea/details, inferring, vowel patterns……
I think this would be a sure fire way to keep my students engaged since they LOVE this series :) Check it out:
