Using Book Creator for the Web in the Elementary Classroom

The popular iPad app, Book Creator, recently became available on the web for Chromebook, laptop and desktop users! You no longer have to have an iPad to be able to use this highly versatile tool. The web version will work on ANY device that runs a Chrome browser. It is still in beta; however, I am very impressed with how smoothly it has worked for me so far.

Using Book Creator for the Web in the Elementary Classroom: This digital tool will allow students to create paperless books on Chromebooks, laptops, desktops, iPhones, Androids and any device that will run a Chrome browser. Very similar to the Book Creator iPad app except student sign into an account and their books pop up under the teacher's library.

Special Features

The web version of Book Creator is practically identical to the iPad app; however, students sign in using their Google account and enter a special code that will connect their account with the teacher's library. Any books your students create will pop up in your library. Students will only see the books they create in their own library.  Special features include:

  • Uploading Images
  • Built in Camera (take pictures and video)
  • Drawing/Annotating Tool (choose from a variety of colors)
  • Add Text (change font, color, alignment and more)
  • Rotate, resize and position your content
  • Add audio recordings
  • Add shapes
  • Add hyperlinks
  • Choose from several different kinds of layouts including comic book templates

Using Book Creator for the Web in the Elementary Classroom

I am so excited to start using this tool with teachers and students. The possibilities are endless. Student could create:

  • Digital Writing Journals
  • Digital Books on any topic
  • Digital Diaries
  • Scrapbooks
  • Fluency Journals
  • Digital Interactive Notebooks
  • So much more!

Does it cost anything?

GREAT NEWS! Every teacher can have one free library that will host up to 40 books. That means if you have a class size that is less than 40 students then every child in your class could create a book with unlimited pages, audio recordings and embedded videos. If you are looking to have multiple libraries or want to make more than 40 books click HERE for pricing.

How Does it Work? Facebook Live Preview

Here is a quick Facebook Live preview I did of this web tool if you would like to see it in action:

I mentioned in the Facebook Live that Monica Burns from Class Tech Tips is offering a FREE webinar on Book Creator for the web on August 30th. Click HERE to sign up! I'm looking forward to attending this webinar so I can learn even more about this incredible tool. For instance, I heard that there might be a collaborative feature but I didn't see how multiple people could work on the same book. That is one of many questions I will be bringing with me to the webinar. Come join me!

Is this something you could see using with your students to create digital books? Let me know in the comments below.
