After blogging about the Turkey Texts Digital Writing Activity and sharing the template with email subscribers, I had several requests for more holiday themed texting templates! I was so excited to get to work because I had a BLAST reading through all of the turkey texts educators sent my way or shared on social media. I was blown away with the students' creativity and even how teachers used the template in their classrooms! Here are some pictures from Mrs. Burnash's SPANISH class that Amy Shaw posted š:
Mrs. Burnash’s Spanish classes had some pre Thanksgiving Day fun. Thanks @JGTechieTeacher for the texting turkey template! #houndawgu pic.twitter.com/2gYw6EEdMf— Amy Shaw (@shawlamy1991) November 18, 2018
Today 2nd graders discussed #qualitycharacter & honesty. Then, they used @JGTechieTeacher's Talk Turkey Template in @googleslides to create a difficult, but honest coversation with a turkey. He wasn't welcome for Thanksgiving because he would be eaten! #LifeReady #ESInnovate pic.twitter.com/m9umpsnYvq— Brooke Mangiaracina (@BrookeM_ILC) November 20, 2018
Holiday Texts
I have created a set of texting templates in Google Slides and PowerPoint for the winter holiday season. Students can create a texting conversation between any character of their choice and a Snowman, Reindeer, Gingerbread man, Elf, or Santa. These digital writing activities can hit all sorts of academic skills. Some of those include:
- using vocabulary in context
- context clues
- point of view
- writing with voice
- grammar
- figurative language
- foreign language
- digital citizenship
- and more!
