How to Add Emojis to Your Google Drive Titles and Folders

Do you ever add emojis to the titles of files in your Google Drive™? This is something I started doing a few years ago to help younger students quickly find templates that were assigned and stored in their Drive. I mentioned this little tip in some presentations I gave last summer and I have received lots of questions asking exactly how I do this.
First, let's take a look at what I am referring to. Look at the folder below of my Seasonal "Would You Rather" Digital Journals in Google Slides™. An emoji appears after the name of the month.

Google Drive arranges files in folders by alphabetical order. Therefore, if you place the emoji at the beginning of the title, it will move that file to the beginning of the folder. Here is an example of how my Hidden Text Templates and Digital Dictionary appear at the top when the emoji starts the title.

To accomplish this, I like to use the Emoji Keyboard by JoyPixels Chrome extension. All I do is click on the JoyPixels extension>type in the emoji I am looking for>click on the emoji I want to use (this copies it to your computer's clipboard)>click on the title and place the cursor where I would like to insert the emoji and then paste (command/control V). Boom💥

Not into Chrome extensions?

You can still add emojis within Google Drive. Click inside of your document, spreadsheet, speaker notes or any area where you can add text>go to Insert>Special Characters>Emoji>Click on the emoji you want to insert>Highlight the emoji>Copy (Control/Command C)>Click on your title and place your cursor where you would like to insert the emoji>Paste (Control/Command V).

You could also use the website Copy & Paste Character. So many options!

I thought I would just pass along that tip in case you are interested in emojifying your Google Drive. You can even add emojis to your folder titles. You might be interested in checking out this video I created a while ago about Tips for Organizing Your Google Drive.
